Fatmir Terziu: Esat Braçe, not Only a Community Leader, but also in the Service of Life at the NHS
There are people who lead a community with words, and there are others who lead by example. Esat Braçe belongs to the latter. Known as the head of the Albanian Association and the Supplementary Albanian School “Mother Teresa,” he is not only a tireless organizer of Albanian cultural and educational life in the diaspora, but also an active professional within the National Health Service (NHS), serving directly in the protection of people’s lives and health.
In one of the most meaningful meetings with the students of the school he leads, Mr. Braçe shared his experience from working in emergency services. Using simple, age-appropriate language, yet with the seriousness the subject requires, he explained how ambulances operate in emergency situations.
“An ambulance arrives quickly when someone needs help,” he told the children, “and inside it work trained professionals whose mission is to save lives.”
He explained that the siren is not merely noise on the road, but an urgent call to clear the way a signal that every second counts. The children listened with curiosity and wide eyes, understanding for the first time that behind the sound they often hear in the city lies a silent battle against time.
The conversation did not remain limited to explanations. The students asked questions, wanting to know how they should react when someone is in danger, what they should say when calling the emergency number, and why it is so important to remain calm. Through this exchange, they learned not only about how the emergency system functions, but also about civic responsibility, composure, and courage in difficult moments.
The atmosphere was warm and inspiring. All the students were attentive and genuinely interested in such an important profession. For them, that lesson was more than a lecture; it was a window into a world where serving others is a mission.
Esat Braçe demonstrates that identity and integration are not two separate paths. He preserves and cultivates the Albanian language among the younger generation, while contributing professionally to one of Britain’s most important institutions, the NHS. In his figure come together the dedicated educator, the community leader, and the emergency professional a living example of how one can serve both their community and the society in which they live.

I am proud of Fatmir for his contribution in Diaspora. I have known and met him here in Elbasan. Dr. Pellumb Kllogjeri, math tutor, pkallogjeri@gmail.com
