Script: RED DEVIL

FADE IN:
1. EXT. RIVERSIDE – AFTERNOON
In a very dark place of the riverside a man is looking up at the sky and thinking. A loud voice comes from him as the camera pans from his back to the front.
WITNESS:
(echo)
Everything is possible and impossible too. So remembering everything is madness. How can we understand that? The Red Devil…, The blood…,The Tree…,The Prisoners…, The past, the present and the future….We are the witness…, we are…, and so?! This is property of the past…, property of this unknown and well-known, Forgotten Fear!
DISSOLVE TO:
The title appears in a black screen RED DEVIL.
FADE IN:
1. EXT. PARK - DAY
In a park with green grass field, sitting on the grass is a LITTLE BOY and his GRANDMA.
The boy’s name is ALEX. He is 8 and has short light-brown hair and green coloured eyes; his skin is pale as if he never goes outside.
His Grandma, EDITH, is 67. She has long grey hair tied in a bun. Alex is sitting quietly next to his Grandma as she reads him a book.
Close on her hand holding a book. Her fingers shaking.
EDITH:
(reads from a book)
Out of every flower, comes out a weed…
ALEX:
(looking at his Grandma)
What does that mean, Grandma?
EDITH:
(removes her glasses and looks at Alex, smiling)
You will find out on your own…
ALEX:
(repeats to himself)
Out of every flower, comes out a weed.
As he repeats again and again what his Grandma read to him before, he focuses his eyes on a field full of flowers and starts his meditation.
FADE TO:
2. EXT. PARK - LATER
Alex and a friend of his, STEPHEN, are playing with a ball together. Stephen kicks the ball into a nearby bush.
We see Alex going to get the ball. As he nears the bush he notices that some roses were growing in it. He reaches out and pulls one out. As he pulls out the flower, he notices something strange that makes him drop the rose.
Out of the bush comes a strange CREATURE. It looks like a living weed. It has a round head with leaves that looked like hair growing out of it.
Its stem-like body is green and has roots twisting and turning all over it, looking like veins when they throb. It also has huge spiky thorns all over its body.
Alex SCREAMS loudly.
THE RESCUER:
Don’t be scared. You created me. You brought me to this world, my destiny; my mission is to change this world. It is an order I was sent to complete, and you gave me a big chance to do it. You are now my life.
ALEX:
Hey, Stephen, did you just see that?
THE RESCUER:
(A voice like an ECHO interrupts Alex.)
I am THE SAVIOUR, THE RESCUER of this world.
STEPHEN:
Who is talking, I can’t see anyone.
THE RESCUER:
(to Alex)
Is this your friend?
ALEX:
(nodding)
Yes.
THE RESCUER:
Then I will let him to be able to see me as well as you. Nobody else can.
The children’s eyes widen. They step back from the creature.
BOTH:
(frightened)
What are you?
THE RESCUER:
I said The Rescuer.
He lunges forward but the children sway back, twisting the top half of their body so that his grab fails.
THE RESCUER:
Don’t be scared. I said The Rescuer. Let’s start now.
ALEX:
(asks him directly)
How comes no one else can see you, but us two only, anyway?
THE RESCUER:
I will tell you everything. My words will make a clear picture in your brain.
(voice over)
It was an ordinary house. It was just an ordinary, empty house, with all its windows broken. Once it had stood on the edge of town but the town had grown bigger, and now blocks of flats looked down into its tangled garden. Nobody had lived there for a long time. Nobody, that is except for us, the rescuers.
We moved in one wet, windy night, one hundred of us, led by THE MYSTERIOUS ONE. We went straight to the basement, where The Mysterious One stood on an upturned, rusty pail.
THE MYSTERIOUS ONE:
You are the first Rescuers.
In my world’s language the rescuers is a hundred of us. If you were sheep, you would be called a flock. If you were humans…
(At the word humans, HE shuffled restlessly.)
If you were humans you would be called a crowd, regiment, division, or perhaps a battalion.
THE RESCUER:
(voice over)
Anyway, that night The Mysterious One was about to use his power to help us in saving the human race. He was going to make us invisible to human eyes. Before though, he was telling us about what we had to do.
THE MYSTERIOUS ONE:
They have told wicked stories about us, and used us in cruel experiments,
(shouts)
They have killed each other in wars. They have turned these world evil thanks to their greed. They cut down trees and leveled mountains and hills and said it was to grow food, but we all now know that it was just a human experiment and that nothing grows at the peak of a mountain! They have done all this, now it is our turn! We will have our victory. But it will not happen overnight. It will take patience and planning, and plenty of hard work.
THE RESCUERS:
We’re ready! We’re ready! We’re ready!
THE RESCUER:
(voice over)
The Mysterious One, who was our leader, used his magic to aid us. He was going to make us invisible, but somehow he accidentally made us disappear completely from this world. We have in another world for a very long time now, not known how to get back to this world. You that have brought me back gave me a chance to start what my people should have started a very long time ago. By bringing me back you and your friend can also somehow see me, but no one else can, unless I want them to.
CUT TO:
3. EXT. ARGADAS STREET - DAY
Alex, Stephen and The Rescuer are now walking away from the park towards a bus stop. The boys are now over the initial fright of seeing The Rescuer and after realising he is quite friendly, they decide to let him go with them.
STEPHEN:
So, what are you?
THE RESCUER:
If I explained to you exactly what I am, you will not understand.
ALEX:
What’s your name?
THE RESCUER:
If I told you my name, I would be telling you my life story, and that is 10,000, years long, but you two can call me The Rescuer.
STEPHEN:
Are there many more of you?
THE RESCUER:
Yes a lot. We come from another world, a world so big you can’t imagine!
ALEX:
(Looking around)
Our world is big too.
THE RESCUER:
You think this world is big? It is not. You see it with your own eyes, and it looks
huge. To me it is very small. I can control this world with the blink of an eye. Do you want me to prove it? Here, look!
Out of nowhere The Rescuer pulls out an object similar to a laptop and points at the screen. The screen shows a normal classroom.
THE RESCUER:
Look at this; you think this would be a normal lesson? It is not.
We see TWO BOYS come into the classroom, both of them very cross. Suddenly, they both start fighting with each other, while the lesson continues in the classroom.
THE RESCUER:
This is what I have come to stop.
(pointing at the laptop screen)
Look! Now is not as it was few minutes before.
CUT TO:
4. EXT: STEPHEN’S HOUSE - NIGHT
We see a MASKED PERSON walk up to a house. He arrives at the front door and takes out a small Red Tree. A light comes out from the Red Tree and we see the door open. The masked figure walks into the house and looks around.
He ascends a flight of stairs until he arrives the first floor landing. He enters a room. Stephen is lying on his bed. The masked person picks Stephen up and walks out of the room.
CUT TO:
5. INT. ALEX’S HOUSE - NIGHT
Wide angle - It is later. Alex is lying in his bed. The Rescuer is standing next to him.
ALEX:
How can you get back to your world?
THE RESCUER:
When our mission is complete I will tell you and only you can make it happen. Only you and nobody else can do it. This is the most important secret that
you need to know.
ALEX:
(half stand on his bed)
But what’s our mission? How can I do it?
THE RESCUER:
My mission is to find the RED TREE again. It is a powerful
weapon of my people but our LEADER once made a mistake and lost it. Your mission is to help me find the Red Tree and after we find it we can
change your world for the better. You are very important. Our success is in your hands.
ALEX:
(smiling)
I am just a kid.
THE RESCUER:
You are not a kid any more in my world’s life. You are very powerful. Everybody has a power within themselves, but yours is special. I will teach you how to use your power. You can make these changes happen.
ALEX:
Will people want these changes to happen?
THE RESCUER:
People? You are right. They are THE POLICE, they are POLITICIANS, and they are THE MAFIA. Of course some of these people don’t like these changes. They should be part of our change too.
ALEX:
You think we can change all these people?
THE RESCUER:
I know also that people have lost faith in change for good.
So I know that, but it is not a huge problem. The problem is that we need to protect the people affected. But if we fail your world will be destroyed.
ALEX:
What?
THE RESCUER:
I don’t want to scare you.
But, this is the final chance
for your world. And if you don’t take the chance your world will end.
ALEX:
I will not let this happen.
THE RESCUER:
Good. Now is your bedtime. Don’t forget this is part of our mission, this is the discipline.
As The Rescuer disappears Alex falls to sleep.
DISSOLVE TO:
6. EXT: OUTSIDE AT THE SCHOOL’S PLAYGROUND - DAY
HIGH ANGLE on the KIDS playing football in the school’s playground. Alex is ready to kick the ball. In that moment The Rescuer’s appearance in Alex’s right side makes him to leave the ball.
KIDS:
(in the CHOIR)
Alex? What are you doing? Kick the ball!
ALEX:
(placing his hand on his stomach)
Ok. Ok. I can kick it now.
THE RESCUER:
(to Alex)
You can still play, don’t worry about my presence. Go on play. I am taking a rest and enjoying your game.
ALEX:
(looking around at his friends)
I’m so sorry, I can’t play any more.
As Alex stops playing, THREE OF THE KIDS come along to him.
ONE OF THE THREE KIDS:
What’s happened to you?
OTHER KID:
Why are you not playing?
ALEX:
I told you, I have a tummyache.
THIRD KID:
(looking at Alex suspiciously)
A tummyache? Can you tell us what you found yesterday with Stephen in the park?
ALEX:
(nervously)
Did Stephen tell you? Why isn’t Stephen in school today, anyway?
THIRD KID:
He told us, look here!
(he points at the article in the front page of the newspaper)
ALEX:
What’s that?
THIRD KID:
(looking around)
This article explains everything. This story can be…
ALEX:
(MURMURS)
I have to go now. I will talk later about that.
(to himself)
Does Stephen…?
THE RESCUER:
(to Alex)
What did you say about
Stephen?
ALEX:
Nothing! Let’s go to find him first.
THE RESCUER:
(on the laptop computer)
Don’t worry I can find him easily with this.
DISSOLVE TO:
7. INT: INSIDE THE GORANAX MOUNTAIN - DAY
The Rescuer has lost control. He is not like before. His power is gone. He is very tired. As he tries to be normal, he hears something strange.
A well-known voice comes from inside the Goranax, where he is at the moment. The voice has been familiar to him from a very long time ago. He shakes his head and concentrates.
THE RESCUER:
(SHOUTING)
ERVENER? Ervener? I know it is you. I know that only you can make it happen to me. We all cried that day for you. We cried and still are crying for you. We were thinking that you accidentally were destroyed.
But you…?
The Rescuer walks further inside the mountain, Alex following him, until they reach a large cave in which there in the centre is Stephen who is inside a cage, and a man who had to be Ervener. At the far side of the cave prisoners are digging up something.
ERVENER:
Forget about that time. It was a dream. I don’t care about it. Now I am more powerful than you. I have this in my hand.
(shakes the Red Tree)
You know it is magical. Do you think our Leader made a mistake that day? No. I stole this magical Tree from him, because he left me without a part in the mission. I knew
this Tree was everything. Its berries were food for us and it was source of power for our mission. This Tree wants blood and I found it easy to feed it. Can you see how? Look around. Do you think these people are simple PRISONERS? No. Their blood feeds the Red Tree. Now be careful in what I am saying to you. I am very rational in my speech. Don’t get yourself mixed-up in this rubbish mission, if you want to live.
THE RESCUER:
What? What?
ERVENER:
(pointing at Stephen in a cage)
This is your friend? I kidnapped him, to lure you here. I knew you would come to save him. You were always too soft.
(pointing at Alex who is next to The Rescuer)
He is your helper? A child?
(LAUGHS loudly)
STEPHEN:
(shaking the bars of his cage)
He kidnapped me. Help me please!
THE RESCUER:
Don’t be scared Stephen.
(to Ervener)
Are you serious about this?
ERVENER:
Serious? You make me laugh. This is only the beginning. You can never destroy me. You know much better than me that our mission was not to kill humans, but to protect them from bad things happening to them and I am half human and half like you. I am inside this human body and now I have double the power in this world. I am the leader, I am everything.
THE RESCUER:
(getting angry)
This is the beginning you say?
ERVENER:
Yes. Do you want to know more?
THE RESCUER:
(now angry)
You are a traitor.
ERVENER:
Listen! Don’t say that to me. This word is no longer in my mind. I have called youa traitor and now nobody listens to you.
THE RESCUER:
Let the kids go, Ervener! This is not about them. It is about you and me.
ERVENER:
And you are going to destroy me?
(LAUGHS, HA, HA, HA…)
THE RESCUER:
Ok. No mercy for you.
As The Rescuer pushes a button on his laptop computer a flash of light mixed red and yellow surrounds Ervener’s body.
Ervener shakes his Tree and the light stands in middle like somebody is holding it in their hands. Ervener swishes the Tree quickly and fire coloured leaves go straight for The Rescuer.
It looked as if The Rescuers body had been engulfed in flames. The Rescuer SCREAMS. Ervener LAUGHS.
THE RESCUER:
Alex! Help me! Use the power within you.
As Ervener thought that The Rescuer is destroyed, Alex quickly concentrated to give all his power to The Rescuer. The Rescuer starts to spin. He spins so quickly that a tornado is created.
The strong gust of wind flies to Ervener and picks him, crashing him into a cliff. His body explodes into many pieces. Every piece of him falls to the ground and HOWLS as it touches the earth.
The Rescuer picks up the Tree, which Ervener had been holding and goes to free Stephen. The Rescuer opens the door of the cage to let Stephen go, using the magic of the Red Tree.
THE RESCUER:
Alex, Stephen. It is over. This Tree will be our weapon. It will help us to finish our mission. Alex, thank you. I could never have defeated him without you. My whole power came from you. Now let’s go, it is getting late.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. GORANAX MOUNTAIN - DAY
Alex, Stephen and The Rescuer now know that their mission is going to be easy. Once the changes are made there would be no more evil. The world is safe.
FADE OUT
